Star Wars Cross Stitch - A New Hope
December 2012
Made as a Secret Santa gift for a close friend.
As a child, I was practically obsessed with cross-stitch (I was in the embroidery club at school. I was a little less Kamikaze Girls, a little more Women’s Institute in style back then) but after a couple of years I got stick of stitching pictures of flowers and puppies and abandoned embroidery completely.
It wasn’t until college that I picked up a needle and thread again for a project on fairytales which sparked my interest in traditional folk art by women. After picking up a copy of The Subversive Stitch by Rozsika Parker, my search for embroidery in art was expanded to include famous contemporary stitchers like Tracey Emin as well as a wave of witty, modern patterns that were anything but pretty pictures of flowers and puppies.
Since then I’ve adapted some of my own patterns such as the James Jean’s Sally Jupiter and Fables covers as I may have posted (or will post) on here as well as fun little cross-stitches such as these.
This particular pattern was from a brilliant little seller called “weelittlestitches”on Etsy, the shop has lots of adorable patterns particularly of pixelated literary and cinematic characters. The PDFs of the pattern cost around £3 each and were simple enough to finish a character a night once I got home from work. What mattered most however, was that my friend absolutely loved the framed piece and immediately put in on her wall at home :)

I swear the older I get, the more I fancy Mark Ruffalo.

For the last half an hour I’ve been trailing through eBay for a cool leather jacket with studs and spikes (or a plain one I can bedazzle myself), all awhile desperately trying to convince myself that it will look good.
The last time I bought a leather jacket, I thought I was awesome until I realised it made me (yes, just me personally, no one else) look like I batted for the other team. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I was just aiming to be sexually attractive to men in my leather jacket, which I wasn’t.
And yet, every time I see some girl on the pages of a magazine in a leather jacket, my heart cries out that I will look as cool as them, while my brain frantically screams “LESBIAN” in the background.
I know there’s been a lot of Lana on here lately, but I made a copy of LDR’s new album for a friend who’s had a bit of a rough time recently and sent it to her as a surprise present.
This is the slip I made for the CD to go into because I had no cases. I just hope it brightens her day a little bit when she gets it :)
